Clients running ET 2.60b which want to connect to ETpro-Server with ET 2.60b installed will be rejected. As a solution for the transition period until ETpro is compatible, the gameservers should be patched to version 2.60b. Players with an unpatched ET (ET v2.60) should only connect to server which seem to be confident to them. The ones who have not back-uped their executables can download them from here to avoid a re-installation.

-[Download ET 2.60 Binaries (Windows) ]-

Quote reyalp:
''FWIW, servers should be able to update and work with the latest etpro (I only tested it very briefly, so there may be something I missed). If clients update, they will be kicked by etpro for integrity, regardless of which server version they connect to.
Updating servers is probably a good idea, since the directory traversal thing can have quite nasty consequences. The remapshader thing requires malicious serveradmins, which are a problem even without that exploit.
If you are using ETTV as your server executable, you may want to turn off sv_allowdownload. The patch readme suggests you can use www redirects with this off, but I'm pretty sure it disables both.''

Important addition: Our sl.-database has been adjusted to the new 'circumstances'. In the gobal and private serverlist the patched servers will be marked with an icon IPB Bild. This icon is only temporary until there are no more incompabilities to mods, clients, server etc. Your sl.-Team!

RtCW/ET
id released a patch for the latest buffer overflow exploit for the Q3A engine. You can download it here:
QUOTE("Readme")
If you run a server with any older version, please upgrade or consider turning off autodownload ( set sv_allowDownload to 0 ). Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory servers http/ftp download feature is not affected by CVE-2006-2082. If you don't wish to upgrade, you can decide to only enable http/ftp downloads and disable legacy downloads in that particular case.

Players of Enemy Territory, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Quake III Arena should be careful in future when connecting to an unknown server. There is a buffer overlow exploit around for the mentioned games with Quake 3 Engine, which plants code on the client and executes it. Therefore it will suffice to send a prepared RemapShader-order to the client.

The linux and also the windows-versions are affected, but the exploit works with linux-versions only at the moment. It opens on TCP-port 27670 a through network reachable shell. The error was found in versions of Enemy Territory 2.60, Return to Castle Wolfenstein 1.41 and Quake III Arena 1.32b. Other versions are potentially also affected. Up to now there is no patch closing this security hole.

Since last night some surely have noticed there are terrible problems at some servers on the internet (in germany). Also the second Sl.Server is affected by it. Our Hoster have hardware problems and we got a message only this morning.
However, the malfunction seems to be diagnosed finally and this is a good sign.

Surely you have already noticed the offline time of the sl.Forum. Due to hacker attacks on the sl.Forum within the last few days we were forced to update the forum software.

On the whole the new forum is going on so we are responsive again. In addition inform us about appearing bugs please. The old forum-skin isn't compatible, we will work on it in the near future there.

The sl.Team would like to thank the hackers which have granted us a lot of work and the update of the forum was already overdue too.

Update:
- Our forum is back with the newest version!
- we have many improvements in the forum software and Dutch and Spain as new forum languages!
- The forum-skin isn't completely adapted yet. We work on it.
- as at March 3rd before 8.00am. All users which have registered after that should register again (the data are lost in the wake of the hackers attack)
- Perhaps your default language setting are lost with the update too. Please simply select your language once more.

Based on enormous server occupancy rate is the sl-site at the moment only constrained available! This problem is mirrored in large server scan intervalls, forged player rating and abnormal site invocations with the message "DB OPEN FAILED! TOO MANY CONNECTIONS!" We works on this problem and apologise for any inconvenience.

Your SL-Team!

Mods / DukeMod
The first beta version of the Duke mod for Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is out. Everyone who liked to play Duke Nukem 3D shouldn't miss it. Thanks to Way2Evil for making this great mod - and don't forget to code some babes!! user posted image

Way2Evil also provided a test server where you can check it out: type "/connect way2evil.info:27961" (w/o the quotes) into the ET-console to connect. The required download size is about 40MB, but fast http-download is enabled. As an alternative you can also download the files directly from the official page.

For screenshots (and another possible download location) visit rtcwfiles.com.

From today on the server popularity is calculated differently. The new calculation scheme takes the server load and the server size into account. As one result large server won't be at the top all the time anymore.

The popularity is updated at 08:00 a.m. every day. You might need to get used to the new values, but we think the server ranking is more fair and realistic now.

Splatterladder
The Splatterladder-Team wishes you a successful eSports-year 2006!

To answer questions about the ranking... we must admit, there has occured a bug during the change and relocation of our tiny database which caused in fact the appearance of the data, but not compulsory its up-to-date status. Due to this there is partially data wich has been updated at that specific time.
The error should be eliminated tomorrow morning from the next ranking.

The other issue, IE-User not able to update their clan-data, will be resolved too.

Thank you for your understanding.

addendum:

4th of January: The clansettings are now usable as usual zwinker.gif

Splatterladder
Good morning,

it is ready today, the ET-part of Splatterladder moves on a new root server in the daytime. If this is completed request times and lags should be a thing of the past, thanks to the new HTML-Engine. Therefore the SL will be down for a couple of hours today. We apologize for this spontaneous action but we are looking for a suitable time already since 14 days. During Farcry and the forum nothing will change.

We keep you informed...

Updates:
- 1:13pm MET: We have started with the DNS-updates.
- 2:30pm MET: The ET page is switched off, we start with the transfer of the web page now. This can last for a couple of little whiles.
- 5:40pm MET: The data have been integrated into the new Splatterladder firmware. On the other hand, if the integrity test is successful nothing speaks to open the system for you again.
- 6:15pm MET: The farcry.splatterladder.com wasn't unintentional reachable by a error in DNS. We have this fixed.
- 11:09pm MET: The whole Splatterladder is online now!

Well this seems to be the end.

I founded this site a couple of years ago with some friends with the same burning desire for RTCW. At this time I had no idea of what this was going to become. I started to learn PHP and soon we had a working news page with comments, a poll and some other sections. We got a pretty cool design by Hipshot, which later was reworked to what it is today. The site developed and grew more and more. After some server craches and lots of lost data we got the site up in a real serverhall.

At some point I met celtiC who started to write news. Back then, I had no idea of what great and devoted person he was. Today, the whole scene got him to thank what this site has become.

Sadly, I lost the interest for the game about a year from the release, but I kept the site running since it became so much more than I ever could have imagined. I also had a great interest in programming which kept me going.

All great moments has an end. Now it's time for sweRTCW. I barely got any time left to work on this site. It also takes alot of administration since I'm running the server at home. celtiC has already given his statement as you all know. I find this is the time to close the doors here. I would like to thank everyone who have helped sweRTCW in anyway.

I will keep the site running a while until i figure out what to do with all movies.

Good bye,
Martin
